St Philip Neri (1515–95) set in motion a renewal of Christianity in the corrupt and decadent city of Rome, while also inspiring wider reform through his foundation of the Oratory. This affectionate biography, by a close friend and disciple, was published in 1600 and is now translated into English for the first time, providing an introduction to the saint’s life and accounts of his miracles and conversions.
